Why should I use an independent service?
Employee Counselling Service was established with the support of the trade unions as well as employers. Employees see it as independent and they will have greater trust in the confidentiality provided. No matter how much a HR or other Manager may want to keep information confidential there are conflicting responsibilities and sometimes even legal requirements that make it difficult.
When an employee has a personal problem they would usually prefer that no one in the workplace knew about it. If on the other hand managers do become involved it can take up a huge amount of their time to support an individual employee.
Employees are much more likely to be open and honest about their situation and sometimes even their own behaviour if they are talking to someone away from their workplace where confidentiality is unambiguous.
